TIME IS TICKING

The protest is coming up pretty fast and furious. I for one am looking forward to it. I am glad to be finally putting faces to names online. I am looking forward to speaking with some of the best names in adoption reform.

I have been writing letters for two and half years in both Indiana and Texas. I have interested legislators in both states finally. I thank all of those that have gone on before and all the young blood that is now coming up.

I have already written legislators in both of these states. I am hoping this protest will bring attention to many others.

When you are writing to your legislators, remember its discrimination not necessarily a civil rights issue. We are not guaranteed our birth certificates under the law except maybe if it is those proverbial papers that they talk about in the fourth amendment.

Most mothers do in fact want reunions. It varies from 90% on up depending on the state and which research study you read. There are many of them out there. We adoptees and our families should have unfettered access to those birth certificates. It is now becoming an infringement upon our civil rights.

Adoptees across our great country are being denied a passport and other forms of identification. We are being denied the ability to join the military because we can’t prove our birth. Adoptive parents are having issues with getting social security cards for their adopted children.

This is not an us vs. them situation. We must join as one to get this done.

Come one and come all to the adoptee rights protest on July 22, 2008 at the National Conference of State Legislators. The legislators across this country need to know how important this is to all of us.
